Something old, something new…

I’m glad to relay that I’m struggling to get into basic IT type work  (helpdesk, desktop support, etc.) in order to establish a name for Absium. It doesn’t seem to be working! It seems people are saying: What is Absium? I told my wife if I make a commercial that I would have that as the tagline: Absium? What’s Absium? The catch would be someone saying it with distaste about the name. My plan was to start low in the IT field with basic work to establish a name and then be a leading expert in cyber security. But I didn’t plan to do all the basic IT work, but have a staffing agency. I thought I was better at advertising other people than myself, but am seeing right now it’s the same thing. So it seems I am going to have to do major networking. In the meantime I was thinking of learning programming. But then I started to have this sense that I’m to be doing something else: inventing!

The invention already exists, and is a vehicle. Until I have some type of prototype I don’t know if I should relay it. Well, if it’s looked up, I pray I get the credit. I plan on revamping
bikes, mopeds and motorcycles. They already exist, but I plan on making them do what isn’t conceivable: stand on their own without a kickstand! More to come on that subject…

I am also into trying new operating systems and figuring out which ones are the best and which would be the best for the public. You guys heard of android right? What if you could have a quicker operating system with less load time and better utilization of your computer/laptop/tablet’s capabilities than android?? Who would be interested? So I plan on looking into it, not only for myself, but also to support the general public and even businesses. If you’ve heard of Fedora, then you know there are companies using something besides Windows and Solaris (used on Apple devices).

Well, it’s come to the point that I have to go on public assistance. I have to see if there are truly benefits and get back to you since I have to submit some more documents in order to ensure I continue to get benefits from Uncle Sam. If anyone has experience, please let me know. I’ve even gone to food pantries since I have to wait till PA kicks in. I’ve met some cool people and see their diligence in getting food from food pantries! To give an example, there’s a spot in the Bronx where the food is given out from 8a-10am. But people are there at 5am to get the ticket to come back to get the food! The first 100 people are served, so imagined how dedicated the people are to get that. And people know where to go on which day to rack up! That’s dedication and great project management?

Now in business!

I had the pleasure of meeting one of my clients to show a program that I had made on client’s behalf. They seemed impressed but when it was payment time, there was a severe delay. I am learning that happens in business, and one needs to have continual business in order not to let any money snags hold a company back. I am also excited at my opportunity to make funds to support my business through another avenue. Now the question remains that has had me puzzled since May of last year: do I go for A+ certification, or should I just go into programming? If any of you are familiar with CompTIA then you know that there are a plethora of certificates that can be obtained in the IT field and the A+ certification gets your foot in the door to get the others. I thought I was going to be able to borrow some money for the exam, but then I was under the impression that one payment would cover it, but there are two parts to the exam… I’ve been saying that I plan on taking the exam this month believing I will have the funds. That means I need to continue to study till the time is ripe.

There are so many resources in NY to keep one busy and even “protected”. If you’ve ridden a train in NY and a person comes on saying they need money for food, you should know it’s a scam because the US is indeed a very wealthy country, and NY is one of the wealthiest in my opinion. I base my theory on the amount of rent that is required from tenants as my basis. In Manhattan alone, you can pay up to $3000 for a small studio. What makes it worse is there are people who can pay it and do just to have a certain zipcode!

The one cool thing is that I’m learning about getting funding via the government. It appears many people know the “ways” of doing it. In retrospect, I can’t blame anyone as one can be forced to do so because of so much bureaucracy.

I enjoy mental stimulation, and I haven’t found the ecstasy like feeling my brain felt that I experienced watching a Charlie Rose episode over a year ago when they were speaking of the intricacies of the brain! How ironic right? That was maybe the only time I experienced that. Maybe it’s like what the movies portray about junkies: it’s the first “hit” that is sought for continually but can’t be. I play chess, study chess, and even watch legendary grandmasters play and haven’t experienced that mental pleasure that I felt. I’ve done much studying and haven’t experienced that.

My thought of the week: Be like a robot, and don’t let your emotions control you.

it’s been that long already?

Hello again!

I feel like I’m letting you guys down… I’m struggling to post as the days progress. The beneficial thing is it shows that I’m busy. The only thing is I feel like I’m doing “busy work” and not getting work done. But “little by little, bit by bit” I’m making it happen. I enjoy wordpress since I feel I can reflect on this like my journal, albeit a public journal. I want you guys to get some glimpses as to what goes on in my life, and that’s why my blog has the name that it has. Where did I leave off? I believe I mentioned my netbook problem and I found a new operating system (Slax 7). I remember my netbook was running faster with Windows 7… I think it’s because the thing boots from a 4GB flash drive that may be slowing it down. I was thinking of getting a bigger flash drive to see if that would work, or the alternative would be to install on a hard drive. It appears the maker of the operating system didn’t design it to do that, but that’s what I’m in the IT business for: to learn how to hack (make things do what I want them to do). I like languages, and it appears with Linux you have to learn a different language to communicate with it. Chinese anyone? heheh. I want to learn Chinese, but Linux doesn’t deal with the Chinese language, unless you choose that language for the system to utilize.

I want to stay focused on 3 things: running a successful business, becoming a National Master in chess, and taking care of my family. I believe the first plays into the next two… let me know if you disagree. So, I was able to hustle some money together (thanks to a buddy of mine) where I was able to make close to $600 in 3 days! (And it was legal!) I’m thinking if I could do that for my business, I would be set! My goal is to make $100K in the first year, albeit I haven’t made a dime yet, but I was informed that during the holidays that IT assistance becomes a vital factor for companies. I pray I get to see that happen. I’m still marketing and trying to find out what’s the best way and who’s the best people to speak to about launching the business off the ground. I’m not too concerned about the government closing down partially since it appears this is being done to make a statement (if you recall, earlier this year there was going to be another shutdown, and I don’t even remember for what….).

I think I caught up on things… I still have rent wayyyy overdue (I know some of you share my pain heheh). I still haven’t been brought to court and I thought that would’ve happened. I’m just trying to play some catchup since I appreciate that I still have a roof over my head. I forgot something… I may go into marketing to raise funds for the business. I’m not an expert at marketing, but I do have a sense of humor and know when things are able to catch on. I sent an email to someone about a little diddy that I made for Little Caesars. I haven’t gotten a response, but I plan on following up.

For those who may be “black” centric, I just found “The Network Journal” that would assist entrepreneurs.

Stay tuned…

How long has it been?

Hello all…

Talk about IT trouble… I was unable to post for a while due to IT issues. No internet (or slow internet connection) prohibited me from posting. I even tried posting on my phone and was experiencing trouble! I went to McDonald’s, as well as the Public Library trying to download a Linux type of operating system. On one occasion, I downloaded it (there’s a library in Manhattan that the Wifi is crazy fast… I’ll keep that a secret for now hehehe). When I transferred it to my computer, it wasn’t showing the size of it. It was like it split into two files. Then I started looking for smaller Linux OSes. Found one!  There’s even one that’s 50 MB. So I finally fixed the netbook (still have to fix the F5 button). It was a snap before (literally) to put back on. Now it’s giving trouble…

Didn’t get the eviction notice yet, but find it funny that I lost my keys… The business is going… still a lot to do… Gratefully I haven’t felt the effects yet of the Federal gov’t shutting down. Anyone out of work because of it?

I missed a day…

Hello all…

I’m a bit embarrassed that I wasn’t able to post yesterday, but I did get busy to the point where the next thing I knew it was midnight (therefore I’m trying to post before midnight!). Great news! I finally got my business certificate today! It’s soooo much work just to get a business up and running. It’s not over yet, I still have to do the daily tasks to be in business (stay tuned…). Yesterday I was busy running around to get personal things done. I work up early and still found myself unable to post as I had a chess tournament to attend in Queens (came home and no food was ready for me to devour) so I had to eat, and therefore made something to nibble on for that night and today. After cooking and eating it was around midnight! I’m not sure if you (plural) play chess, but if you make one move incorrectly, it can cost you the whole game. Chess is like life in that sense… You can open the game great, but then make a bad decision in the middle stages of the game or the end of the game.

I’m still trying to get funding via my website to get more funders: Just $24 more dollars and the whole world can see my plans. More funders, means I stay in business longer. If you own a business, I would be more than happy to get advice (especially if you reside in NY). I’ve learned that big businesses know how to get funding, and therefore that’s how they stay in business (look at the big car companies who got federal funding…). I’ve been doing a lot of studying (chess, with getting the business started, etc.) and I notice that change is necessary to get focused. For example, if I want to excel in the business, I have to refocus my energies somewhere else and return to the business to be most effective. Let me know if that rings true for you as well.

Gotta go… trying to post before midnight… Good night!
